Terms of Use

These terms govern access to Texas Criminal History. Visiting a page, using a search feature, or relying on site content means the visitor accepts every condition below. Anyone who does not agree with these terms should stop using the website. The site is a private reference resource, and no part of these terms creates a relationship with a Texas government office.

NO FCRA USE. This privately owned website is not affiliated with a government body and is not a consumer reporting agency. Neither the site nor its advertising partners offers a service intended for credit, employment, tenant, insurance, or any other Fair Credit Reporting Act purpose.

1. What This Website Is

Texas Criminal History is an independent reference site. It neither stores official criminal records nor performs official background checks, certifications, corrections, or court filings.

The site's role is to explain routes to Texas DPS, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the Texas Public Sex Offender Registry, Texas courts, and the local record offices serving all 254 counties. It may also connect visitors to third-party research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Visitors agree not to:

  • Use the site in violation of federal, Texas, or local law
  • Stalk, intimidate, threaten, harass, or harm another person
  • Use site information for an FCRA-regulated decision
  • Attempt unauthorized entry into a site account, server, or system
  • Deploy bots, scrapers, or other automated collection tools
  • Interfere with site performance or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment or Discrimination

Information found here or through a linked resource may not be used to harass, stalk, threaten, intimidate, or discriminate. Texas Public Sex Offender Registry data is published for public-safety awareness. Misuse, including a criminal act against a listed person or conduct intended to harass that person, can violate Texas law and the registry's terms.

4. No Consumer Reports

Texas Criminal History does not create background checks, credit reports, or other consumer reports and is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. Site data and linked tools may not be used to:

  • Make a hiring or termination decision
  • Evaluate a renter or housing application
  • Set credit terms or insurance eligibility
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other FCRA-regulated purpose

A legally compliant check for such a purpose must come from a properly authorized official channel or an FCRA-compliant provider. Government Code §§411.083 and 411.135 define confidentiality and the public portion of Texas DPS criminal-history information; they do not make this private site an official source.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how a Texas charge, warrant, conviction, expunction, or nondisclosure rule applies to a particular person. A licensed Texas attorney should address individual legal questions.

6. No Warranties

The website and its content are provided "as is." There is no promise that:

  • Every page is complete, accurate, or current
  • The website will always operate without interruption
  • The pages contain no error, bug, or security weakness
  • A partner search result is complete or correctly matched

Texas cases and records change when charges, dispositions, court orders, and agency reports change. Government records may also be limited by the Texas Public Information Act, Government Code Chapter 552, or by the CCH rules in Chapter 411. Only the originating office can provide an official current statement.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to Texas agencies, courts, sheriffs, clerks, legal resources, and outside search services. The destination controls its content, availability, privacy practices, and fees. Texas Criminal History has no responsibility for those outside systems, so visitors should review the destination's terms.

8. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise identified, the text, graphics, logos, and code on this site belong to Texas Criminal History or its content partners. They may not be copied, distributed, modified, or adapted without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Texas Criminal History is not liable for damage arising from use of the website, its content, or a linked service, including an action taken in reliance on information found through them.

10. Indemnification

A visitor agrees to hold the site harmless from claims, demands, legal actions, costs, and reasonable legal fees caused by that visitor's use of the site or breach of these terms.

11. Governing Law

Texas law governs these terms. A legal dispute connected to use of this website must be brought in a court with proper jurisdiction in the State of Texas.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be changed by posting a revised version on this page. The revised terms take effect when posted unless the page states a later date.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be limited or ended at any time and without advance notice when the operator determines that action is appropriate.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. The affected language is adjusted only as far as needed to make it enforceable.
